Welcome to greycountystewardship.org, the homepage for the Grey County Forest Stewardship Network.

We are a not for profit volunteer based organization working together to try and conserve and enhance the natural resources of Grey County.

We do three types of projects to achieve these goals and they are youth education, public awareness and physical on the ground demonstration type projects on private land.

We operate under the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Ontario Stewardship program.

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)

Although not yet discovered in Grey County it is widely believed that this exotic pest will get here eventually. Once it does there is potential for widespread changes to the woodlots of Grey County. To keep up to date with recent discoveries of the insect please click here.

2012 Grey Bruce Children’s Water Festival

In line with the declining enrollment issue facing the Bluewater School Board the Grey Bruce Children’s Water Festival has also seen a decline in its participants over the last number of years. Because of this the organizing committee has decided that we can reduce the festival to three days without compromising the quality of the event for the children taking part. 2012 is the first year the festival will be on for three days instead of four. 2011 Envirothon

Congratulations to the West Hill Secondary School Envirothon team that competed to win at both the regional and provincial competitions. This team moved on to the international competition in New Brunswick where they competed against 53 other teams from across Canada and the united States. A team from Manitoba came first. This is the first time in Envirothon History that teams from Canada have placed both first and second.

Butternut

Grey County Forest Stewardship Network is still looking for landowners with Butternut trees on their property. Please contact us if you think you have some butternut and wouldn’t mind us having a look. If the trees are healthy enough we may ask to collect some seed in the future for propagation. Please contact us at the contact page to report your trees or for any further information.
